Bavarian ice curling. Harder to say than to play.

You slide a weighted stock down a lane and try to stop it nearest the target. Austrians and Bavarians have been doing it on frozen ponds for five hundred years. Nobody is good at it on the first try, which is the entire appeal.

  • Two lanes, forty-five feet each, with standing room down both sides.
  • Synthetic ice — it works in January and it works in July.
  • Fire pit in the middle, ringed with benches, which is where everyone will actually be.
  • Winter market stalls for weekend vendors — food, makers, and whoever else turns up.
  • Warming hut at 6 Ordway for hot drinks and thawing out.
